Ginger, Turmeric and Lemon Detoxing Tea
I have to come clean right from the word go here… this Ginger, Turmeric and Lemon Detoxing Tea is my absolute favourite drink of all time… ever. I cannot praise its detoxing effects enough. When it comes to clearing our bodies of acid, this little gem is right up there to rival the scientifically formulated supplements.
The only drawback to this drink is the ginger. Not everyone is OK with the strong taste ginger has or the sticky mess that it can leave when being chopped up. For those guys I’d suggest sticking to the supplements.
To be clear, I never use processed ginger in this recipe, only ever fresh. Fresh is far superior. Don’t be tempted to use processed ginger from a jar or paste. Lots of that “juice” you get in the processed stuff is just corn syrup.
Why is this detox tea so healthy?
The 3 ingredients in this tea have been expanded on in other posts, but I’ll go through them again as a reminder:
Turmeric the yellow-pigmented curry spice is far more than a cooking staple. It has long been used for its medicinal purposes, and is a powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic herb.
Its benefits have since been well documented and curcumin—one of the most important components in turmeric, has been found to protect against a wide range of health conditions. Some are chronic inflammation, liver disease, skin problems (i.e. acne, psoriasis, eczema), digestive issues, joint and muscle pain, and immune support to name a few.
TIP: Research shows that when you add a pinch of black pepper to any recipe that has turmeric, and you will increase the potency of your turmeric by 2,000%!

Ginger has long been used for the relief of many stomach ailments such as motion sickness, morning sickness, colic, nausea, and vomiting.
A serving of lemon contains 51% of your daily vitamin C needs as well as other vitamins and minerals. Lemons have been found to help combat stroke, cancer, and asthma. They also help with maintaining a healthy complexion, increasing iron absorption, and boosting the bodies immune system.
Lemons are very alkaline-forming in your body due to its high mineral and low sugar content. In addition to this tea, you can add a lemon slice to your water to make it more alkaline!
Bring a pot of water to a boil. While the water is boiling, peel the turmeric and ginger and dice it into small pieces (the smaller the better).
Once boiling, remove the pot of water from the heat. Next, add turmeric, ginger, and black pepper into the pot with water and simmer for at least 10 minutes (the longer you simmer, the more potent and concentrated the Detox Tea will be).
Squeeze a lemon slice into the cup and enjoy (note – if the lemon is organic, you can drop the entire slice in your cup. If not organic, just squeeze the juice.
Store leftovers in the fridge in an airtight container for a healthy cold Detox “Iced” Tea.
Turmeric, Ginger and Lemon Detox Tea [Serves 2-3]
- 16-20 oz. of filtered alkaline water
- 1 inch of fresh organic turmeric root
- 1 inch of fresh organic ginger root
- pinch of black pepper (increases potency of turmeric by 2,000%)
- 1 lemon slice (do not boil, add to tea before serving)
Freeze your tea in cubes
I also use my Zenify ice cube tray to freeze my tea in. These cubes are small enough that they will fit inside the mouth of an average water bottle. Rather than freezing a full bottle I place a 3/4 full bottle in the fridge and then put in a handful of cubes just as I leave the house.
You can also put a few cubes in a glass of cold tea in summer.
